Entertaining with Style

Now that warmer weather is upon us, it’s time to orchestrate the delightful gatherings that make this time of year so special. With the following entertaining ideas, planning a successful gathering will be a pleasure. Whether you are embracing the current trends, or staying true to the classics, rest assured, your next event will be an unforgettable occasion.

If you are dining on your deck or by the pool, it is easy to entertain several guests, a few close friends or simply yourself.

Creating the ambiance of the table is as important as the food and beverages served. Everything on your table should be fresh and clean. White linens are still considered to be the most formal, but colored or patterned tablecloths, placemats, and napkins can be just as elegant. Remember, a tablecloth is spread to hang evenly on each end and on the sides.

Now have some fun with the table setting. Include votive candles, a centerpiece as simple as a small potted flowering plant, or an arrangement of garden flowers. For larger parties, place cards serve to alleviate the confusion and frustration from your guests of where to be seated. If you have china, crystal, and silver hidden away in a closet, USE IT. Even if the entree is hot dogs and potato salad, the ambiance created by the reflection of lighted votives off of china, crystal, and silver is delightful.

Light your votives one hour prior to dinner to allow the wax to melt and become clear. You will love how simple and elegant it is. Also, be careful not to overcrowd the table. Arrange your decorations so guests seated opposite may still see each other.

With these easy tips, your guests will think you’re a natural. So get some fresh flowers, and don’t be afraid to use your china for a fun backyard gathering. Cheers to all things luxury!
